It was officially incorporated into Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as a medical therapy to be used for problems where acupuncture and herbs were less effective.

What is Tui Na?

Tui Na is a clothed manual therapy used in traditional Chinese medicine; based on the principles of yin-yang, the five elements, and a meridian view of the body. The goal is to encourage free flow of qi by manipulating the joints, viscera, and soft tissue. Chinese massage is performed using compression, friction, swing, pinching and grasping, percussion and vibration. These techniques help in removing blockages of QI, improve blood circulation and relieve muscular stiffness in various parts of the body. Therefore these massage techniques are helpful in treating abdominal, back, chest and limb problems. .

What Does Tui Na Treat?

Tui Na treats chronic pain, especially that caused by muscle-skeletal conditions and njuries. Examples include Neck, shoulder, leg or back pain. They also help in improving the flexibility of the spine and gastrointestinal functions. It is, however, impossible to treat a specific condition with Tui Na without improving the overall Qi status of the body. This means that headaches, migraines, IBS, constipation, PMS and a whole range of emotional problems can also be treated.
